Home Made Chicken Souvlaki Recipe
Image by Jeff Velis from PixabayChicken souvlaki is a popular Greek dish made with skewered chicken that is marinated in a flavorful mixture of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, and spices. It is then grilled to perfection and served with pita bread, tzatziki, and grilled vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless chicken breasts, cut into1- inch cubes
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instruction
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well to coat the chicken.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
- Preheat the grill to medium heat.
- Thread the chicken on to skewers
- Grill the chicken for 5-7 minutes per side, or until cooked through
- Serve the chicken with pita bread, tzatziki, and grilled Vegetables.
Tips
- For a more flavorful marinade, add 1/4 cup chopped red onion, 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper, and 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley.
- If you don't have skewers, you can grill the chicken in a grill pan or on a baking sheet.
- To make tzatziki, combine 1 cup Greek Yogurt, 1/4 cup cucumber, grated, 2 cloves garlic, minced, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Mix well
